    The world’s biggest shark is the Whale Shark. This shark can weigh over 15 tons and reach lengths of 41 feet. These sharks live in warm and tropical ocean waters. They have a lifespan of 70 years. In spite of their size, they are not predators. Here is a guide to the other large sharks. 
     
    The Basking Shark 
     
    This is the second largest shark on Earth. It weighs 19 tons and can reach lengths of 40 feet. Like the Whale Shark, this is a non-predatory creature. 
     
    The Great White Shark 
     
    This predator of the sea can weigh as much as 5,000 lbs. Some Great White Sharks are 26.2 feet long. It is the last member of the Carcharodon genus. This shark can be found in all the oceans of the world. 
     
    Tiger Shark 
     
    This is ranked fourth in the list of the world’s biggest sharks. This shark can weigh over 2,000 lbs and be 24.3 feet long. The Tiger Shark is known for eating different marine life forms. Like the Great White Shark, the Tiger Shark is capable of attacking people. Most of them are found in the central Pacific Ocean. 
     
    Pacific Sleeper Shark 
     
    Adult Pacific Sleeper Sharks are 23 feet long and weigh 800 lbs. These sharks can be seen in the polar waters throughout the year. Unlike other sharks, the Pacific Sleeper can be seen swimming as deep as 6,500 feet below the ocean. 
     
    The Greenland Shark 
     
    This shark can attain lengths of 21 feet. These creatures are seen around the North Atlantic Ocean. As the name suggests, the Greenland Sharks are mostly found along Iceland and Greenland. They can attain a maximum length of 21 feet. 
     
    They can swim 6,600 feet deep in the ocean. However, some have been found only 24 feet from the surface. The Greenland Shark can live for up to 200 years. They are the longest living vertebrae. 
     
    Great Hammerhead Shark 
     
    The Great Hammerhead is the largest of all the Hammerhead sharks. Some species are 20 feet long. The heaviest on record is a female that weighed 1,280 lbs. These are found in warm tropical waters. These are shy creatures that shun human contact. 
     
    Number eight among the world’s biggest shark species is Thresher Shark. It can reach a maximum length of 18 feet. It can be found swimming tropical waters around the planet. These sharks look a bit thin. However, each one can actually weigh over 1,100 lbs.
