    The world’s biggest castle will depend on what criteria are used. The biggest inhabited castle is Windsor Castle. The largest castle complex is the Prague Castle. But in terms of area size, the largest would be Malbork Castle.

    1. Malbork Castle

    Its total area is 143,591 sq m. It was built in 1274 by the Teutonic Knights. They used it as their fortress to defeat the Polish. Through the centuries, the castle was expanded numerous times.

    2. Mehrangarh Fort

    The Mehrangarh Fort in India measures 81,227 sq m. it is known as a fort, but its built allows it to be called a castle. The structure rests on a 122 meter (400 feet) hill.

    The walls are 21 meters wide and 36 meters high. One can enter only after passing through seven gates. The fortress was constructed in 1489 by Rao Jodha. It was rebuilt several times. Much of what remains today date from the 17th century.

    3. Prague Castle

    The Prague Castle has the world’s biggest castle complex. It measures 66,761 sq m. The structure was built during the 9th century. It was expanded numerous times until the 18th century. The Prague Castle has numerous complexes, including St. George’s Basilica and St. Vitus Cathedral.

    4. Windsor Castle

    At 54,835 sq m, Windsor Castle is the biggest inhabited castle on the planet. It is also the biggest castle in England. Windows Castle is the official residence of Queen Elizabeth II.

    5. Hohensalzburg Castle

    Hohensalzburg Castle is the fifth largest at 54,523 sq m. The castle is located in Salzburg, Austria. It is also one of the most well preserved European castles. It was built in 1077. Hohensalzburg Castle was fortified between 1495 and 1519.

    6. Spis Castle

    The Spis Castle measures 49,485 sq m. it is located in eastern Slovakia. It is one of the largest castles to have been built during the medieval age. The structure’s main body was reinforced with stones around the 13th century. The lower courtyard was fortified around the 15th century.

    7. Buda Castle

    The Buda Castle measures 44,674 sq m. The castle is in Castle Hill in Budapest. Fortification of the castle began in the 13th century. The present-day Buda Castle combines different architectural styles.

    Compared to the world’s biggest castle, the Himeji Castle is only the sixth biggest at 41,468 sq m. Himeji Castle is regarded as one of the most beautiful castles in Japan. The complex was finished in 1609.
