    The smallest ones measure 3 x 3, 3 x 5 or 3.5 x 5 inches. The medium sizes come in at 4 x 6, 5 x 7 and 6 x 8. These are the most commonly used and the standards for pictures.

    The large ones are for portraits. The smallest of these frames measure 8 x 10. More common are 8 x 12, 8.5 x 11 and 9 x 12.

    There are also extra large frames. The dimensions can reach 10 x 13, 11 x 14, 11 x 17 and 12 x 16. The biggest ones can measure 12 x 18 inches. These large picture frame sizes are often used for diplomas and special images.

    There are also frames available for posters and artwork. These measure 16 x 20 inches or 22 x 38. There are also some companies that develop custom built frames. If you want to take pictures like a professional photographer, these are the sizes they usually use: 4 x 6, 5 x 7, 8 x 10, 11 x 14 and 16 x 20.

    How to Use Picture Frames

    The type of picture frame you choose will have an impact on the image itself. With the right picture frame size, the picture will have a stronger impact. The size you pick will depend a lot on the picture itself.

    Usually the large picture frames contain portraits. It can hold the picture of a dearly departed loved one. Or perhaps it contains the picture of an important ancestor. The frame may also contain a wedding picture.

    Large picture frames should be installed on walls by itself. This ensures it will draw attention. Smaller frames should be place on tables, desks or cabinets. These locations are accessible to kids;

    make sure the frame is strong enough to withstand damage. The color and texture of the picture frame should also complement the surroundings.
