    The Standard Sizes Worldwide (in Inches)

    They are 5 x 7, 8 x 10, 11 x 14, 16 x 20, 18 x 24, 20 x 24, 24 x 30 and 24 x 36. There are also some square frames like 12 x 12, 8 x 8 and 5 x 5 available. These sizes can be a little difficult to obtain in stores.

    However, there are square frame kits for sale on the Web. The Net is also a good source for other non standard frame sizes. It is also possible to get frames custom built. But it should be stated that these sizes only come in limited styles.

    Standard Frame Sizes for Art

    Ornately designed frames are sold in the standard sizes. These are set in various styles, with gold and silver being the most popular. Other finishes are also available. Among the biggest sizes used are 30 x 40 and 36 x 48.

    These specially designed frames are best suited for portraits, wedding pictures, mirrors and choice art prints. They are also used for paintings. All the large frames are ornately decorated.

    Standard Frame Sizes for Posters

    Sizes used for posters are 11 x 17, 20 x 28, 24 x 32, 27 x 40 and 27 x 41. These frames are made from different materials. The most basic employ Plexiglas. These are cheap frames best for children’s posters.

    For movie artwork and advertising, other high quality frames are used. Matting is also utilized to prepare a poster for framing. The abovementioned sizes are sold on the Internet. They are also custom built by companies.

    Sizes Used in the United States

    These are some of the other frame dimensions used in the US. They include 24″ x 30″, 24″ x 36″, 20″ x 30″, 22″ x 28″ and 20″ x 30″. Other sizes you can choose are 20″ x 24″, 18″ x 24″, 16″ x 20″ and 14″ x 18″.

    Frames also come in the following sizes: 12″ x 16″, 11″ x 14″, 10″ x 13″, 9″ x 12″ and 8.5″ x 11″. There are also frames that measure 8″ x 10″ and 6″ x 8″. As you can see, many of the sizes used in the US are the same as those in other countries.

    Other Facts

    The frame specifications mentioned refer to the size of the image that can be placed there. It does not refer to the physical dimensions of the frame. The actual dimensions of the frame are bigger.

    The sizes are also specified width x height. Of course the size of the frame is just one aspect. You must also account for the contents of the frame itself; in the end it is the photo that will matter most.

    Anyone who wants to take photos must know the standard frame sizes used. With the proper framing, the quality of the picture will become even more conspicuous. Standard frame sizes will determine how one takes a picture, displays that picture and oerall quality of your final piece of art; as you can see, it’s important.
