    Pastry brush size comes in several dimensions. You can choose a specific size according to your preference and requirements. A pastry brush is an essential kitchen tool used in baking and roasting.

    Depending on the brand that you are buying, pastry brushes come in different sizes. Some of these sizes include 9 inches by 12 inches by 1 inch; 10 inches by 4.2 inches by 1 inch; 11.8 inches by 3.1 inches by 1.2 inches; and 12 inches by 4.2 inches by 1 inch.

    The bristles can be made from natural bristles to synthetic materials such as nylon or fibers or plastic. The handles are typically made of wood and these can come in several colors, from white to brown, black and red.

    Using a Pastry Brush

    This type of kitchen tool is always handy to have around. You can use this to coat your pastry crusts with egg whites if you want them to come out crispy after baking.

    You can also use this to baste your meat and poultry with when you are roasting any one of these. A pastry brush can help you baste evenly so you can coat your meat and poultry with whatever coat base you are using, whether it’s your marinade or own special sauce. 

    For your cakes, you can use this brush to add a special glaze over your cake without compromising the quality or deforming the cake’s look and design. There are plenty of other uses for a pastry brush and it is recommended that you keep at least two different pastry brush sizes handy for your cooking and baking glazing or basting.

    Cleaning a Pastry Brush

    If you are getting a pastry brush with bristles made of nylon or plastic materials, it is important that you hand-wash this in order to get all residues out, particularly in between bristles.

    You should know that brushes of this sort are prone to bacterial growth when not cleaned properly hence; it is of utmost importance that you thoroughly clean this before and after use; and then hang to dry.

    On the other hand, if your bristles are made from silicone, you will find that this type is easier to clean and maintain. With a silicone pastry brush, you can simply put this in the dishwasher after use with no need to hand-wash first.

    As a matter of fact, if you haven’t yet bought your pastry brush, it’s best to look for one made with silicone bristles as these are resistant to heat and they are usually made of solid mold so you won’t have to worry about bristles falling off.
