  • Pandora’s Box Dimensions

Pandora was a popular character in Greek mythology who was endowed with beautiful traits or gifts, given by Greek gods and goddesses. Apollo, Aphrodite, Hermes and all the other gods gifted her with each of their special traits.

Pandora, in English translation, means all-gifted.

Pandora was a creation of the god Hephaestus and she was said to be the 1st female on earth. She made from the elements of earth and water.

The mythical box given her was actually a jar but later translations referred to the jar as a box and the misnomer Pandora’s Box have stuck ever since.

In the popular game God of War series, God of War III finally opens Pandora’s Box.

    Pandora’s Box in Greek Mythology

In Greek mythology, Pandora’s Box or more aptly, jar; was said to contain everything that is evil about the world. She was instructed to never open this jar no matter what happens.

But Pandora did open it and it released all the evil that was kept in jar. When she realized what she had done, she hurriedly closed the jar, preventing the last thing from coming out of the jar, and that is hope.

In modern times, unlocking Pandora’s Box translates to doing something bad that you can never undo.

A depiction of a Greek jar which could have been similar to Pandora’s mythological jar is found in the Louvre. The jar measures five feet and 1 ¼ inches high and thirty-four and 1 ¼ inches in diameter.
