  • Hula Hoop Size Chart

A hula hoop size chart will show the size ranges from 30" to 44" in diameter. The following are the standard figures, although some variations may be found among manufacturers.

    Hula Hoop Guide

For children over seven years old, the ideal size is 30”. The 36” hula hop is ideal for the petite adults or older kids. Among taller adults, the ideal sizes are 38” / 40". This is also the size used for doing hula hoop tricks.

The 44” is for the plus sized men and women. There are also some people who find the large hula hoop size easier to work with. Some companies also make custom sized hula hoops.

Why the Hula Hoop Dimensions Matter

The bigger the hula hoop is, the slower the rotation will be. The smaller the hula hoop is, the quicker it will be. For beginners, the larger hula hops are recommended. Their large size means the hoops are more forgiving. This allows one to perform the movements precisely and slowly.

The large hula hoops also helps one get a feel for the hoop as it moves around the body. This allows you to get the right rhythm. By using a large hula hoop size, one’s rhythm will match those of the hula hoop. The recommended size for beginners is 38” at least. As your skill improves, you can start using smaller hula hoops.

How to Find the Right Size

Stand up and hold the hoop in front of you. The rule most people follow is that the hula hoop must be between the nipple and stomach height. However, the size of your waist has to be considered too. Only use the larger ones if you are inexperienced. The smaller are better not just for tricks but also for giving yourself a workout.

    Tips for Beginners

No matter which type or size you choose, the basic process is still the same. Begin just a bit above the waist. Next, push the hoop around your waist. The key is to move your weight back and forth. This will keep the hula hoop going. When shifting weight, place one foot in front of the other. This makes the movement easier to do.

Whatever hula hoop size you choose, remember that the motion is more pumping than circular. As for the direction, it’s a matter of personal preference. Above all, be patient; you’ll get the hang of it eventually.

In all of the sites I have looked at they just tell me the size of the hoola hoop is small, medium, or large. They do NOT tell me the inches. Can you tell me the inches of the small, medium, and large. I am a small adult.

      Thank you.
