    MySpace is one of the biggest social networking sites in the Myspaceworld today. It is one of the extremely popular sites on the Internet and receives a tremendous amount of traffic. There are a lot of things you can do online with a MySpace page. Users would use their account to get in touch with friends and express themselves through photos, videos, and blogs.

    The site was launched in January of 2004 and was acquired in 2005 by News Corp. According to its fact sheet page, the site has almost 125 million users that are active all over the world. In the United States alone, the site has a total of almost 66 million unique users. This gives you somewhat of an idea on how big this social networking site is.

    From December of 2007 to December of 2008 the site was able to maintain its number of unique visitors to above 100,000. In the year 2009, it was able to take 23.65% of market share of unique visitors from the United States. That is a large margin compared to most social networking sites in the world where the average share ranges from less than 1% to around 1.5%.

    The site packs features that are quite appealing to its current and possible new users. To give a brief idea, artists and fans are allowed to connect through MySpace Music. Various music genres are cataloged on this platform. It boasts of more than 25 million songs on it.

    This social networking site boasts of more than a billion images uploaded to it. As of the 2007 it served by seven data centers, 6,000 web servers, more than 600 ad servers, more than 200 database servers, and a bandwidth of 70,000 megabits/second.

    Current Ranking

    The top ten social networking sites provided by Hitwise in the world ranks MySpace at number two comparing its US Market Share of visits in August 2009. The number one slot is occupied by a fast emerging site, Facebook. According to the said statistics, Facebook took 39.53% of the US market share visits.

    As of January of 2009, MySpace was overtaken by Facebook by number of unique visitors worldwide. The site only registered over 800 million while Facebook had registered monthly visits of about 1.2 billion. However, if you check the number of unique visitors, the numbers don’t separate by a large margin. The difference in number between both sites is only by a margin of 10 million. Both leave a huge margin over the number three competitor that only registered almost six million unique visitors.

    From this we garner that MySpace has its hands full in the race for the top spot among various social networking sites in the world. Changes will have to be implemented if they want to catch up on the rankings though they do have a really good portion of the social networking site audience.
