  • Hanukkiya Dimensions

A hanukkiya or more commonly spelled as hanukiah is a special candelabrum that is used during the Jewish Festival of Lights or Hanukkah.

While menorah is the more common term used for this special candelabrum, hanukiah is actually the more appropriate term, technically speaking.

Menorah is a general term for candelabrum in Hebrew. Typically, a menorah only has 7 candleholders, perhaps owing to the fact that the original menorah was at the Temple of Jerusalem and it holds 7 candles.

Today, it has evolved from the Temple menorah into a Hanukkah menorah where nine candleholders are included. To differentiate the types of menorah, those used for Hanukkah are either called Hanukkah menorahs or hanukiah.

    Hanukkiya Dimensions

Hanukkiya or Hanukkah menorah dimensions come in different sizes, with the larger ones typically measuring about 10.25 inches in length, 8.25 inches in height and 2.25 inches in width.

These are usually displayed by the living room window or center table at home. They can be made of brass, aluminum, sterling silver or even gold.

Smaller dimensions in terms of height include those measuring approximately 11.4 inches in length by 3.5 inches in height. Usually, smaller Hanukkah menorahs are displayed by bedroom windows, particularly in the kids’ bedrooms.

The designs also vary, with Hanukiah types having a flame design, Star of David, and leaf designs; among many others.

For designs suitable for kids, there are figures of musicians as the candleholders, chairs, people donning different costumes, floral designs and other fun shapes that kids love. Typically, kids’ Hanukkah menorahs are more colorful, adding to their festive appeal.

Sometimes, suppliers throw in a free dreidel – a square spinning top played during Hanukkah celebrations – with every purchase of select menorahs. However, these are more commonly offered in online shops than in regular, land-based suppliers.

Incidentally, the traditional menorah used during Hanukkah celebrations has nine candleholders, four on each side and one slightly higher center candleholder.

    Special Hanukiah Merchandise

To make Hanukkah celebrations even more festive, there are a good number of different merchandises printed with special Hanukiah designs. T-shirts printed with different colorful Hanukkah menorahs both for kids and adults, ceramic mugs, bags, hats, posters, greeting cards and postcards are all popular items as Hanukkah draws near.

These can be purchased online in select online stores and depending on your amount of purchase, shipping and delivery services may be offered free of charge.

For shirts and hat sizes, you can usually sizing guides straight from the website of the supplier to help you get the right fit for each of these items.
