Dry van container sizes are diverse because they can refer to almost any type of general purpose container. They are used in a variety of services, from moving furniture to storing different types of goods and materials.

The 20 ft Low Cube

These are 20′ long, 8′ 0″ wide and 8′ 0″ high (6,058 m x 2,438 m x 2,438 m). On the inside they are 19′ 4" long, 7′ 8" wide and 7′ 4" high. The metric equivalent is 5,898 m x 2,352 m x 2,240 m.

The 20 Ft High Cube

The container is 20′ long, 8′ 0" wide and 9′ 6" high (6,058m x 2,438m x 2,896 m). The interior dimensions are 19′ 4" (L), 7′ 8" (W), and 8’ 10" (H). This is equivalent to 5,898m x 2,350m x 2,695m.

The internal cubic capacity is 1.318 ft3. The maximum gross weight is 67,200 lb / 30,480 kg. The tare weight is 5,180 lb / 2,350 kg. The maximum payload is 62,020 lb / 28,130 kg.

40 Ft Dry Van

The dry van container size externally is 40′ long, 8′ 0″ wide and 8′ 6″ high (12,192 m x 2,438 m x 2,591 m). The internal dimensions are 39′ 5″ (L), 7′ 8″ (W), 7′ 9″ (H). This is equal to 12,032 m x 2,352 m x 2,385 m. The maximum gross weight is 67,200 lb / 30,480 kg. The max payload is 58,380 lb / 26,480 kg. The tare weight is 8,820 lb / 4,000 kg.

40 Ft High Cube

Externally, the container is 40′ long, 8′ wide and 9′ 6" high (12,192 m x 2,438 m x 2,896 m). The internal dimensions are the following: 39′ 5" L x 7’8" W x 8’10" H (2,698 m x 2,352 m x 12,031 m).

The internal cubic capacity is 2.698 ft3. The maximum gross weight is 67,200 lb / 30,480 kg. The tare weight is 8,575 lb / 3,890 kg. The maximum payload is 58,625 lb / 26,590 kg.

Note: the actual dimensions may vary by a few millimeters depending on how they were made.

When looking for dry van container sizes, do not be surprised if the specs look a lot like shipping containers. Shipping containers, dry van and cargo containers are interchangeable.
